FOR 2026-2027
New to Edmonton Public Schools
New student registration begins on February 2, 2026. Families of children entering Kindergarten to Grade 9 can visit the New Student Registration page to register online for the 2026–27 school year. Registration is not on a first-come first-served basis. All students who register during pre-enrolment have the same opportunity to attend Joey Moss.
To register, your child must be a resident student, which means that at least one parent or legal guardian lives in Edmonton and is not Roman Catholic. Three pieces of proof of address are required. Please note that we cannot accept registrations with future possession or move-in dates.
Additional documentation may be required, including additional address documents, or immigration documents for students who are not Canadian citizens.
PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to accept Cell Phone Bills, Driver's license, Bank statement, Mutual funds or Retirement Saving Plans. We will however accept 3 of the following:
- Electricity bill
- Natural gas bill
- Property Tax Assessment from the City of Edmonton
- Mortgage document with proof of home insurance or
- Lease agreement (from a rental company or a suite registered with the City of Edmonton) with proof of tenant insurance
Current and New Students – Joey Moss School
Pre-enrolment for current Joey Moss students and new resident students (who live in the attendance area) begins on February 2, 2026, and ends at 4:00 p.m. on March 25, 2026.
We will contact new student families by April 17, 2026, regarding their enrolment status (accepted or not).
Level 3 Lottery Process
Edmonton Public Schools reviews enrolment and programs at schools each fall to monitor growth and see where schools are on the Growth Control Model. Joey Moss School is Level 3 on the Growth Control Model, and will use a lottery process for new resident students enrolling at the school for 2026-27. This will not impact students who currently attend the school. The lottery process only impacts new resident students living in the attendance area who wish to enrol in a grade that does not have space in planned classes.
If we do not have space for your child, they will be able to:
- Attend the overflow designated school, Esther Starkman School, or
- Enrol at a Level 1 school with space in planned classes, and
- Request placement on a callback list for spaces that may open before March 2027.
When a sibling of a student currently attending the school and returning the following year has registered or pre-enrolled by 4:00 p.m. on March 25, 2026, the following applies for siblings who are new to the school:
- Siblings who are resident students and live in the attendance area are given priority but are not guaranteed placement if there is insufficient space at their grade level.
- Resident siblings who live outside the attendance area may only attend if there is space in planned classes after resident students living in the attendance area are enrolled.
We will help resident families register at their overflow designated school. If families choose to attend another Edmonton Public School, they must contact their preferred school directly to determine if there is space in planned classes.
Siblings may also attend the overflow designated school. However, if families choose another Division school with space in planned classes, sibling placement is not guaranteed.
For more information about the lottery process, watch the Growth Control Model video for an overview of the lottery process. You can also read more about the lottery process on epsb.ca. If you have any other questions, please contact the school at 587-489-4747.
Opportunities to Visit Joey Moss School
Due to our Level 3 status and the high number of inquiries we receive, we do not host a spring open house or offer individual tours.
For Kindergarten Students Accepted to Joey Moss School
- Kindergarten Visit Day
Kindergarten students and their families are invited to visit on Wednesday, May 27, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. This drop-in event allows families to tour the school, meet the Kindergarten teachers, and become familiar with the learning environment.
- Staggered Entry
To support a smooth transition into school, Kindergarten students will attend using staggered entry on September 1, 2, and 3. Families will receive detailed information once registration is confirmed. Students will attend in small groups, allowing teachers time to meet with families during drop-off and pick-up and helping to reduce first-day anxiety.
- Parent Information Session
Kindergarten staff will host a Parent Information Session on Thursday, September 3, at 6:00 p.m. This is an adult session to provide an opportunity for parents to learn more about the Kindergarten program, hear directly from teachers, and ask questions.
For Students in Grades 1–9
All students and parents are welcome to meet their child’s teacher on Monday, August 31, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. This is also an opportunity for students to find their classrooms, bring school supplies, and feel settled for the first day of school.
Transportation to Overflow Designated Schools
Yellow bus service to Esther Starkman School will be available for eligible Kindergarten to Grade 6 students. Bus fees apply. Eligible students must apply before June 1, 2025. Application forms and additional information are available on the Applying for Yellow Bus Service page on epsb.ca.
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is the preferred transportation method for junior high students. However, if ETS is not available, eligible students attending Esther Starkman School may apply for yellow bus service.
Registering After the Pre-Enrolment Deadline
If you move into the attendance area after 4:00 p.m. on March 25, 2026, and the school is full in the grade your child is entering, your child may attend the overflow designated school or another school with available space.
Your child will be added to the school’s callback list. If space becomes available in planned classes, students on the callback list will be contacted.
