Joey Moss School opens for learning September 2022. The Board of Trustees approved our school name at a public board meeting on June 22, 2021.

Joey Moss captured the hearts of Edmontonians for decades. He became a household name working as a dressing room attendant for the Edmonton Oilers and the Edmonton Eskimos (now the Edmonton Elks), since the 1980s. Players and fans alike looked up to Joey for his passion, positive attitude and incredible work ethic. He taught many people about acceptance and inclusivity through his work, community involvement and advocacy for supports for people with disabilities in the Edmonton region.

Joey Moss School will be home to a school community that fosters a sense of belonging and where students are celebrated, respected and challenged. With a focus on building relationships and connections, the school will strive to provide enrichment and leadership opportunities that nurture the whole child in a welcoming and supportive environment.

    School Council

Joey Moss School has a desire to engage with parents through School Council. Our School Council focuses on building a community at Joey Moss that works in collaboration with the Fundraising Society to sponsor events. As a member of the School Council, you are able to provide valuable input and gain insight into the education your child is receiving. Involvement also helps parents gain a greater understanding of the school and the educational process. All parents are encouraged to attend monthly meetings. Meeting information is posted for parents on SchoolZone.

A School Council Introduction and Establishment Meeting was held on June 20 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

    Fundraising Society

The Joey Moss Fundraising Society runs fundraising events to provide financial support to enhance the education of all the children that attend Joey Moss School. The Fundraising Society supports artist in residences and school performances to enhance the arts at our school. They also raise funds to support field trips, purchase technology and offer any other financial support that may be needed. Fundraising meetings will follow School Council meetings each month. Watch SchoolZone for more information.

    Playground Committee

The Joey Moss Playground Committee works with the City of Edmonton on the consultation, fundraising, designing and construction of a new playground.

A major role of the Playground Committee is to organize a variety of fundraising activities at the school and in the community. The committee will also raise funds through grant applications and private donations. We hope all of our families get involved to help us build a playground in a timely manner.

Principal's Message

Meet our Principal Colleen Marshall and learn about our school opening, including the building design, course offerings, student supports, programming information, and more.

Welcome to Joey Moss School! I am honoured to be the first Principal of this wonderful school and I look forward to supporting all students on their individual learning journeys.

At Joey Moss, we are committed to providing a positive, welcoming learning environment that will foster and support student learning. We focus on creating a school community where diversity is celebrated and valued, and relationships are nurtured. Our goal is to ensure all students feel safe and happy every day.

Our priority is student growth and success. We will provide opportunities for students to explore, create, collaborate and work to their greatest potential. We focus on literacy, numeracy, inquiry, the arts and physical education. Our team will encourage students to be confident in their own learning and be positive, contributing citizens in our school community and beyond.

We believe that we cannot do this work alone and that student success is a shared responsibility of the school, parents and our community. We welcome and encourage our families to play an active role in their children’s education. Please connect with us if you have any questions or feedback.

I look forward, with great excitement, to opening our doors for students in September 2022.
